Business Networking Tips
Here you will find the latest tips for business networking.
- Never make assumptions about the person you are talking to. Everyone has friends, colleagues, relations and contacts, and one of them might be just the person you need to speak to.
- When asking for referrals, be specific. Don't say "who do you know who needs an electrician?", say "who do you know who is refurbishing their house and needs lighting, wiring and heating installed?"
- Understand the difference between a referral and a lead. A lead is a 'cold' contact, a referral is 'hot' - they know who you are and are expecting to speak to you.
- After meeting someone, jot down a few notes on the back of their business card to remind you of who they are and what you talked about.
- If you are part of a networking group, make sure the people in your group understand what you do. If they don't, how can they be expected to look for opportunities for you?
- Networking involves WORK. With preparation, effort and enthusiasm, you'll get a great deal out of it.
- Remember you have one mouth and two ears. Use them proportionately and you'll be well on your way to being a successful networker!
